New York City's dark history revisits the public as Robert Chambers, famously known as the "Preppy Killer," has been released from prison after serving 15 years on drug and assault charges. The controversial figure, now 56 years old, was convicted for strangling 18-year-old Jennifer Levin in Central Park during the summer of 1986. Chambers entered a guilty plea to the murder after a lengthy trial that ended in a hung jury.

Having previously served time for Levin's murder and released in 2003, Chambers found himself back behind bars after being arrested in 2007 for drug-related offenses. The court sentenced him to 19 years, but he has been granted early release, leaving the Shawangunk Correctional Facility on Tuesday.

According to online records maintained by the New York Department of Corrections, Chambers is now under supervision for up to five years following his release. This additional monitoring aims to ensure public safety and a smooth reintegration into society.

The case of Robert Chambers has long been a topic of public fascination and sparked intense debates about crime and punishment. His release reignites discussions about the justice system, rehabilitation, and recidivism.

As the Preppy Killer resumes life outside prison walls, society will closely watch to see if he can successfully reintegrate and break free from his criminal past.
